What is myopia?

Myopia — nearsightedness — is when distant things look blurry while close-up things stay clear. It usually shows up in childhood and tends to increase as kids grow. It's very common (and becoming more so), and it's nothing to panic about — but it is something worth staying ahead of.

Why manage it, and not just correct it?

A regular pair of glasses helps your child see clearly today, but it doesn't slow how quickly their myopia increases. Myopia management aims to do both: clear vision now, and a gentler climb in prescription over the years. Keeping that prescription lower supports healthier eyes well into adulthood — which is a lovely thing to give a kid early.

How myopia management works

There's no single right answer — we'll recommend an approach that fits your child's age, prescription, and daily life. Options include:

What helps at home

A couple of simple habits make a real difference: plenty of outdoor time (aim for around 90 minutes of daylight a day) and regular breaks from screens and close-up work. Catching myopia early matters too — the sooner we start, the more we can help — so regular eye exams are the best first step.
